Mr Gary Norton

Mr Norton received a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and his Post Graduate Higher Diploma in Education both from the University of the Witwatersrand. He then went on to obtain a Diploma in Business Management from Damelin. Mr Norton has a wealth of teaching experience, having taught at Mondeor High School (1982), Parktown Boys (1984 – 88), St David’s Marist Inanda (1989 -1997), Oakhill (1997) and finally settling in at Marist Brothers Linmeyer in 1998, which totals 23 years at our School. Along his journey, Mr Norton has taught Physical Sciences, Biology, Mathematics and isiZulu, but his passion lies in the fields of population dynamics, animal behaviour and herpetology. He encourages students to believe in their worth as human beings and to make a significant difference to the world during their lifetime.

Mr Norton’s hobbies include growing Bonsais, Knife-making, Leatherwork, Keeping fit, Painting, Cooking, Gardening and Motorcycling. Mr Norton’s favourite Chinese proverb is, “Keep your words soft and sweet because you never know from day-to-day which ones you’ll have to eat.” He believes in treading gently on the Earth and is inspired by young people, passionate teachers and people with courage. Interesting facts that not many people may know about Mr Norton are that he has run 7 Comrades Marathons, he has completed the Iron Man Triathlon, he has worked with SAIMR Animal Ethics Committee, has performed the role of a Field Guide. Mr Norton was Head Boy at school and he also has a love for snakes and other wildlife.

Mr Norton believes that the calm environment, and sense of Family Spirit and the number of dedicated, special people who teach our young ones, is what makes this School special.
